"En Plein Air" Paintings and Drawings
South Saskatchewan River (20 by 30" oil on canvas)
This is by far the largest plein air I have ever created to date at 20 by 30 inches. I painted it a week or two after I painted the Cottonwood tree. This painting was also created just a few meters away from that Cottonwood tree too. After 5 hours of working on it beside a small fire and boiling water to make hot chocolate to keep warm, a snow storm blew in which left me with no choice but to stop painting. But I guess thats the thing with painting outside, you never really know what can happen or even if the elements will let you finish your work the way you want to or not. Either way, I was able to learn a fair bit by creating this piece. Every so often I try to challenge myself a bit more than usual to help increase my skill as an artist and ability to see things as is.
