"En Plein Air" Paintings and Drawings
Interior of old building down 50th. 1 (oil on canvas)
Down one of the back roads I drive down where I grew up in Edmonton there is a field with 3 old shacks which have been heavily weathered. I always admired these shacks every time I drove by them. I remember a sketch I have of them that I did when I was 17 years old, and I have sketched them a few times since then. Then this past spring it finally dawned on me to paint a plein air of them and instead of painting their exterior like my pencil sketches of them, I decided to paint the interior of one of them. I remember I sat in this shack for close to 4 hours painting this small 8 by 10 canvas. It was extremely windy that day and a few times I thought the shack was going to blow over on me. I returned to the same shack a couple days later where I painting "interior of old building down 50th. 2".
